SEPTEMBER 30TH - REWOUND: THE BEST OF SHOW

Welcome to The Western Front - 120m of music, news, and views. We broadcast across the Front Range on alternate Wednesdays from 9-11 pm MT.

Audio Archive:

Thanks for joining us for a special Metro Arts edition of the "best of" The Western Front. This afternoon from 12-1 pm MT we'll rewind the archives to share some highlights from the last six months of the show. We'll hear a performance and conversation with Erin Roberts of Porlolo. Joel Davis explores the strange world of shortwave radio. Sam Fuqua catches up with Meat Beat Manifesto, and we catch up with them for a live performance. Plus, Doc Martin sheds some light on Malcolm McLaren.

All that and the latest news... John Schaefer guides you through the dust of the past. Don't miss it.

FEATURES FOR THIS AFTERNOON:

Porlolo Performance:

Erin Roberts (aka Porlolo) is well-known as a maven of the Denver music scene. Her passion is evident whenever she hosts the long-running Local Shakedown. She's also quite a musician herself, as she demonstrates during her live performance. Catch her live with Porlolo 10/27 at the Larimer Lounge

Waves of Intrigue:

For decades, mysterious "numbers stations" have captivated shortwave radio listeners with their eerily fascinating recitations of simple number sequences. Are these broadcasts mysterious instructions transmitted from headquarters to spies in the field, or are forces more (or less) sinister at play? Joel Davis meditates on the possibilities.

Meat Beat Manifesto Interview:

KGNU's very own Sam Fuqua has a conversation with Jack Dangers the brains behind Meat Beat Manifesto. Tune in to find out about his now legendary performances and to learn about his new album on Thirsty Ear. Plus, hear an encore presentation of Meat Beat Manifesto's 6/17 show from the Bluebird Theater.

Dossier: Malcolm McLaren:

KGNU's very own Doc Martin opens up the dossier on Malcolm McLaren. Tune in to find out about McLaren's journey from managing the Sex Pistols to recording "Buffalo Gals" with the World Famous Supreme Team.
