JULY 13TH - BORN, BJORN, AND BEYOND
Welcome to The Western Front - 120m of music, news, and views. We broadcast across the Front Range on alternate Wednesdays from 9-11 pm MT.
The Western Front is happy to be back after an extra week off. We're sure you missed us as much as we missed you. We're also sure that you will not be disappointed by tonight's potentially epic program. Hosting their first Front ever are KGNU heroes Cap'n Rob and Doc Martin. And now... tonight's starting line up... Denver's own Born in the Flood, a band you've surely heard about as they're getting big props all along the front range. DJ Uplifter brings his roots rockin' stylee to the show for a couple of rastafied DJ sets. Joel catches up with Senegalese hip hoppers Daara J, Penny Lane regulars reminisce with Maeve Conran, and Joe King brings us another illuminating edition of On The Internets.
Amazingly enough, that's all happening tonight, in two short hours. Please join us, as the Western Front resumes our ongoing investigation.
FEATURES FOR THIS EVENING:
Born in the Flood Performance:
Ever since making a huge impression at June's Westword Music Showcase, Born In the Flood has been inundated with interest from all corners of the indie music industry. We, of the Western Front, foresaw this deluge of demand and booked them for the show months ago. They'll be stopping by after a big gig tonight to serenade us from the Kabaret Room. Start stuffing your sandbags.
Guest DJ: DJ Uplifter:
Also known as DJ Uplifter, Bjorn Coker is a tireless promoter of reggae and his grooves are catching a fire all over the front range. Tonight he spins a couple of irie sets from the blue studio.

Daara J Interview:
One of world music's emerging genres is West African hip hop, and Senegal's Daara J have put their own unique stamp on what most consider to be an American music form. Fadda Freddy speaks with Joel Davis about hip hop's African roots and a US tour that brings Daara J to Boulder for the first time.
Last Thoughts On Penny Lane:
And meanwhile back... Penny Lane will not be in our ears, eyes or our caffeinated hearts for much longer - the legendary Boulder cafe shuts down for good on Monday. Maeve Conran stopped in for a double shot sampling of parting thoughts from Penny Lane patrons. Very strange.

On The Internets:
On the Internets tonight, Joe King speaks to our comrades at Communist Remixes for the People, "dedicated to helping foster a community of people interested in musical collaboration in the open source tradition." In other words: I'll remix yours if you'll remix mine. Skol!
