JUNE 22ND - HEATING ELEMENTS
Welcome to The Western Front - 120m of music, news, and views. We broadcast across the Front Range on alternate Wednesdays from 9-11 pm MT.
In this edition of The Western Front we welcome the arrival of our long-lost friend, summer. The heat is most definitely on here on the Front Range, with Denver's DOJO bringing their precise and free-flowing discipline of modern hip-hop to the Front Burner (aka the Kabaret Studio). We've also got special and exclusive encore performances from Meat Beat Manifesto and Dub Trio. Dave Herrera, Westword's Backbeat editor, provides us with a double-whammy: first he'll tell us all about the upcoming Westword Music Showcase; then he offers tonight's Free Set. Joe King is here with a set of big beats from Big Dada records, as well as another episode of On The Internets, and just to keep that summery feel flowing, DJ Sensei (aka Steve Rush) drops by to spin us a set of classic roots reggae.
So set your ceiling fan to stun, pour yourself a frosty mug of whatever it takes to cool you down, and leave the rest to us.
FEATURES FOR THIS EVENING:
Dub Trio Encore:
Last Friday was quite a night at the Blubird Theater, and The Western Front was there to capture it all on tape for you. The evening began with New York's Dub Trio banging and skanking in a most enjoyable manner. Hear it for yourself as we encore part of that performance on tonight's show.
Dojo Performance & Interview:
The Dojo is a collective of MCs, DJs and producers led by the Analog Suspect and Selecta Roswell. They're in the Kabaret Room tonight, demonstrating a unique brand of musical martial arts and talking to our own Rob Bell.
Westword Music Showcase:
This weekend marks the return of the Westword Music Showcase, a gathering of 60+ local bands throwing it down on 10 stages in Denver. Dave Herrera, editor of Westword's Backbeat, shows us the field.
The Free Set:
The aforementioned Mr. Herrera also brings his formidable talents to bear on tonight's Free Set. With a decidedly local approach, consider this (along with archived Western Front performances: Gann Matthews, Janet Feder & Fei Wu, Hot IQs, LINT, Dressy Bessy, Porlolo) your primer to the best that the Front Range music scene has on offer.
Meat Beat Manifesto Encore:
Continuing that thread of our fine Friday night at the Bluebird, tonight's Western Front extends by one hour to provide you with an exclusive recording from Meat Beat Manifesto. Jack Dangers & Co. held up a cultural mirror for an enthusiastic audience. Come bask in the reflection.
On The Internets:
Joe King is back for another scintillating, exhilarating and illuminating installment of On the Internets. What it's about we can't say, but that's only because he hasn't told us yet.
