JUNE 15TH - QUEEN BISCUIT RADIO MYSTERY
Welcome to The Western Front - 120m of music, news, and views. We broadcast across the Front Range on alternate Wednesdays from 9-11 pm MT.
In this edition of The Western Front we welcome KGNU's own Maeve Conran to the hosting chair (actually, it's a papier mache fit ball). She'll guide us through a sea of new music, make Porlolo feel right at home in the Kabaret Studio, and connect the dots between Joel Davis' shortwave essay, George Figgs' Free Set, and Joe King's look at remixing penguins - all that plus the latest news. So, kick back with a cool glass of lemonade and two handfuls of ginger snaps it's going to be a spectacular night on the radio.
Plus listen for your chance to WIN TICKETS to the upcoming Meat Beat Manifesto show at the Bluebird Theater.
FEATURES FOR THIS EVENING:
Porlolo Performance:
Erin Roberts (aka Porlolo) is well-known as a maven of the Denver music scene. Her passion is evident whenever she hosts the long-running Local Shakedown. She's also quite a musician herself, as she demonstrates during tonight's live performance.
Waves of Intrigue:
For decades, mysterious "numbers stations" have captivated shortwave radio listeners with their eerily fascinating recitations of simple number sequences. Are these broadcasts mysterious instructions transmitted from headquarters to spies in the field, or are forces more (or less) sinister at play? Joel Davis meditates on the possibilities.
The Free Set:
When he's not providing superb sound for The Western Front's live performances, George Figgs can be found scouring the web for cheap (as in "free") (and legal) downloads for you to cram into your iPod. Soak in the sounds of musical freedom... it's more refreshing than a raspberry spritzer.
On The Internets:
After a week away "on assignment," Joe King returns for a fresh installment of On The Internets. In keeping with this evening's theme of espionage and intrigue, he hasn't told us what it's about, only that if the idea of penguins being chopped up bothers you to please tune away!
